Pump Advice
Pool pumps are one of the most important parts of your swimming pool system. In Perth’s hot climate, an incorrectly sized or failing pump can quickly lead to cloudy water, algae growth and higher electricity costs.

There are several places which a pump may leak. The most common are from the intake and discharge unions, the lid, the mechanical seal and the main seal. For unions and lid try loosening them reseating the O'-rings and retightening them to stop. A mechanical seal leak usually leaves a wet moist area below the pump, the pump will need to be stripped down and repaired “overhauled” to stop it. A main seal leak comes from the join between wet end and motor end, sometimes it can be fixed by re-lubricating the O-ring again the pump will need to be separated to do this.

If your pump sounds louder than normal it’s usually one of two things: the bearings have failed creating a very loud oscillating vibration noise, it can also be a damaged of blocked fan at the rear of the pump. There are a few other things but these are the most common. We can overhaul your pump and replace the bearings for you.

There are countless things that can cause a pump to not prime, but try these first few tips and if it’s still not going give us a call.
Remove the lid fill the pump with a bucket of water, reseat the lid and try it again
Check there are no leaks from the intake and discharge unions, particularly the intake union
Check the pool is filled to the correct water level and that the weir door is not jammed

If you have a pump with a computer, usually variable speed pumps it will have a digital display or led lights next to some buttons. If these are not lighting up first remove the pump power plug and try it into another GPO that you know is 100% live and working. If the pump is still not coming on it is likely a PCB failure. We can quote and repair for you

Again there are several things that can cause this but a common one is a blocked impeller. You will need to remove the main bolts to seperate the two halves of the pump, then remove the diffuser. Usually you can see the blockage straight away but not always, it could be tiny stone or nut fragments wedged inside the impeller that will need to be removed. If you aren’t confident we can do it for you

There are several reasons a pool turns green but the most common is a lack of sanitiser usually from a failed salt cell or failed liquid feeding. Check if your cell needs a clean or that your feed lines aren’t blocked.

Some pools have an overflow plug to waste out excess. Some pools may have been plumbed in a way that allows for you to drain out excess rain water via a waste valve. Many pools however have no obvious way for you to lower the water level. We can do a site review for you and explore the options available at your property so you can manage this issue going forward.
